Barrett Wins in First Formula
Russell Weekend
Patrick Barrett wins Sunday Championship
Group Race: Formula Russell Series at Infineon Raceway.
Patrick Barrett won in his first weekend in the SCCA
Formula Russell Championship Series at Infineon Raceway
in Sonoma this past Sunday February 12th. He qualified
off pole in his Formula Mazda and led all laps to win
the Sunday Group A race. “I qualified off pole
by .05 seconds and made the pass by Chuck Hulse going
up the hill into turn two on the first lap, and was
able to lead for the next 25 minutes to the finish”.
He was followed across the line by fellow karters Lorenzo
Madarino in 3rd and Tyler Dueck in 4th and.
Patrick had a very satisfying Saturday race. “I
qualified third in Group A, just .005 out of second,
and made the pass into second going up the hill out
of turn one on the first lap.” He traded fast
laps with the leader Steve Hill, 2005 championship runner
up, and finished a close second.
"Coming away with a first and
a second is just what I needed to get a good jump on
this year’s championship. I feel very confident
about this season and I’m really looking forward
to competing in all of the Formula Russell Championship
Series races.”
Patrick will contend the entire nine weekend series
on the Infineon road course. He is currently tied for
the overall series championship lead. The monthly series
runs through October. The next race is March 10-12.
In addition to the Russell Series, the 16 year old from
Los Osos, California plans to take advantage of other
open wheel racing opportunities this season and will
campaign his DPK Birel TaG kart in select event.
The SCCA Formula Russell Championship is a seventeen
race series that runs monthly at Infineon Raceway through
October. Information about the series and the Russell
