Barrett Tests with Team G.FRO
in Preparation for the Infineon Pacific Formula Ford
2000 Round
Patrick Barrett participated in
a two day test with the G.FRO Formula Ford 2000 Zetec
team at Buttonwillow Raceway, California on August 7
and 8. He had a very successful first drive in the 2
liter Ford Zetec powered Van Diemen RF05. Team owner
Geoff Fickling and driver coach/engineer Ian Lacy gave
Patrick high marks for his first time in the car. He
showed enough speed on the second day to surpass the
previous fast lap mark set by G.RFO drivers in the Pacific
FF2000 car on the East Loop configuration.
“Pat did an excellent job in his first test,”
commented Fickling. “Our goal was to pack in as
much experience as we could in the two days and Pat
excelled at every challenge we threw at him. He adapted
to the car’s characteristics very quickly and
his consistency was equally impressive. To say the least--we’re
very optimistic.”
“I was very pleased with the test,” Barrett
said. “Everything ran smoothly and we were able
to accomplish a lot. We ran multiple scenarios on the
1.3 and 2.7 mile tracks, including simulated qualifying
and race distances. I’m definitely looking forward
to working with the team at Infineon next week”.
The 16 year old from Los Osos, California will have
his next outing with the team at Infineon Raceway near
Sonoma, California on August 15 and 16 as he prepares
for the Pacific Formula Ford 2000 race weekend there
September 8-10. Patrick is the current points leader
in the Formula Mazda based SCCA Pro Formula Russell
Championship which holds their next race weekend on
August 18-20 at Infineon.
G.FRO is based in San Clemente, California and has drivers
in both the Pacific F2000 and the Cooper Tires FF2000
National series. Barrett joins an already talented duo
of regular G.FRO drivers John Lombardo and 17 year-old
Philip Metzger at both the Infineon test next week and
the Pacific F2000 double-race event in September.
